Welcome to Shamgar Discipleship Blog - 1:1 Leadership.
The idea of one-to-one discipleship is not a new idea. The concept was born with Jesus Christ hand-selecting His first followers, mentoring them, and they in turn followed the pattern. The biblical basis for one-to-one discipleship is found in 2 Timothy 2:2. Paul instructs Timothy in this way, "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others."
In one-to-one discipleship a person mentors someone else and invests everything they know and have into the life of this person and then encourages them to do the same thing in the life of another. The person being mentored sees God in the life of their mentor and can translate such into their own successes, challenges and struggles as they grow in their faith. Just as there is no substitute for a coach in the life of an Olympic athlete, there is no substitute for a mentor in the life of a growing Christian; and that is what one-to-one discipleship is all about.
This website, moreover, this blog, is made available to the Olympian, All-Pro disciples of Jesus Christ whom are not simply satisfied with their salvation and content to sit in the stands and watch the game. Rather they have chosen to suit up and follow Jesus' command to make disciples as you go throughout life and by mentoring those who will in turn mentor others.
